Can a ECE Student attempt GATE CSE Paper I'm from ece and wanted to attempt gate but im interested to choose my career in software background so i wanted to attempt CSE paper. Is it possible and is it ok to write so?

Why do you want to attempt GATE CSE Paper. If you want to enter Software industry, learn coding, prepare for interviews and directly join a company, instead of spending 2 years doing Masters, and then going for job? Will save you time, money and energy.

Yes any graduate can appear in any paper of GATE. But admission to MTECH may be require the students to be graduate from same subjects in which he intends to do MTECH.

No it's not possible, u can only attempt gate in that branch in which you are having it bachelor's degree.

Yes you can write the paper in CSE Branch but PSU wont consider you for recruitment purpose. you can apply for higher studies at IIT's and NIT's as well as some international universities also consider GATE score for Admissions like NUS (National university of Singapore)

You don't need M.Tech(CSE) to settle in software industry. You can appear GATE in ECE, get good rank, and join some IIT/NIT/IISC. There you can try for software jobs during placements and you may get better jobs than software jobs.

Yes,very much possible. It totally depends upon your will. In 2015 GATE CSE, topper was a mechanical engineer. Currently he is studying Masters from IIT Bombay.

Yes you can write paper but it will not be considered in M.Tech & PSU.Therefore there is no use of giving paper in CSE.You should have taken CSE in b.tech only
