(5-x)/ (7-x) = (3/4) => 4(5-x)= 3(7-x) => (20-4x) = (21-3x) => -4x+3x=21-20 => -x= 1=> x = -1

Let x be subtracted from each term of 5:7 From given condition, (5-x)/(7-x)=3/4 cross multiplying we get 20-4x=21-3x x=-1. Therefore -1 needs to be subtracted from each term to get 3/4.

Let y be subtracted from each term. Given that (5x - y)/(7x - y)=3/4 Upon Cross-multiplication we get 20x-4y=21x - 3y y= -x Hence -x must be subtracted from each term to get the ratio of 3:4.
